Thank you's!

I know, I know...I've been AWOL for awhile but I really have been busy in the kitchen! May and June have been filled with bible school airplanes and birthday parties, including everyone's favorite mouse and an explorer named Dora. Earlier this week, I had an order for cookies to use as thank-you gifts. She specifically asked for bluebirds and flowers. Borrowing on Sweet Sugarbelle's bluebird design and some simple flower ideas, this is what I created:

Each beribboned gift bag contained one bluebird, one daisy, and one tulip, all in vanilla. This is a poor photo, and you can't tell it, but the blue centers on the daisies are covered in sparkling sugar. And the birds aren't frowning...those are supposed to be eyelashes!

Thank you, Rachel, for the order!

Wedding bells will be a-ringing!

Last night, our church celebrated the upcoming marriage of our minister of music and his high school sweetheart. They have a really sweet love story...ask me sometime and I'll tell you about it. A lovely cake was part of the presentation table, and I made some cookies [of course] to go along with it:

These are just a few of the cookies [my favorites] from the tray that I took to church. This was my first try at making bluebirds with royal icing as a transfer on wax paper and then placing them onto the cookie. I was pretty pleased at how they turned out and plan to use this method of decorating again. I have to give credit for the idea of using a bell cutter as a birdcage to Callye at Sweet Sugarbelle.
